DTF Print: FAQ Guide

wellye

Which printer do you recommend for DTF conversion?

We recommend the Epson L1800. It has been well tested with DTF inks and performs well. Replacement parts are very cheap and readily available. This printer is well documented and has been used for DTG printing for many years. It's easy to convert and doesn't require any special parts. The only downside is that it is slow compared to other printers like the P600.

What are the advantages of DTF printing?

  • Good printing effect
  • Personalization
  • Environmentally friendly and pollution-free
  • quick response
  • save costs
  • easy to use
  • Abundant application materials

Fabrics with DTF printing exhibit good wash characteristics.

What is the difference between DTF and UV DTF?

A significant difference between DTF and UV DTF is the printing technique. DTF printing inks are water-based color inks and white inks, while UV DTF printing uses UV inks with varnish. the

And the fields of application are also different. We mainly apply DTF printing in the garment industry and mainly use UV DTF printing in the signage industry. the

Which printers are available for DTF printing?

Any old printer that can print 5 or more colors. Older printers will be compatible with most types of printing rip software and will have a refillable ink system. Other colors will allow white ink to be added. Some of these printers are: P400, P600, P800, 1430, R2400, R1800, R3000, R2000, R2880, R1400, etc.

Do you need special software?

Yes, you will need to use rip software such as acrorip in order to print both white and color, and smother the white layer by a few pixels so you don't get a thin white outline.

How washable is DTF?

Washability is great if you use a premium + powder and follow the correct application. It certainly outperforms laser white toner transfer printing. Recommended washing temperature is 40C.

What is DTF like?

The feel depends on the type of powder you use and the thickness of the ink layer. More ink will absorb more powder and make the overall effect feel thicker. Our soft and resilient DTF powder has a better feel than traditional vinyl or other types of heat transfer materials. It is elastic and soft to the touch. However, it is not softer than DTG prints.

What happens if my DTF printer is inactive for an extended period of time?

It will clog like a DTG or normal inkjet printer. If you plan on shutting down the printer for weeks or months, you will need to flush the lines, clean the printhead and soak it in a cleaning solution

Why does the printed DTF PET film become oily after drying for a while?

First, we have to find out what is causing this problem. There is an ingredient in DTF white ink, which we call humectant. Its role is to prevent the print head from clogging. Without humectant, the printheads can easily stall.

The main ingredient in moisturizers is glycerin. Glycerin is a clear, odorless, viscous liquid. It absorbs moisture from the air. Therefore, glycerin is a good humectant. Glycerin is miscible with water and ethanol, and its aqueous solution is neutral. At the same time, glycerin will not chemically react with other components in DTF white ink, thus affecting the quality of the ink. Glycerin has a much higher melting point than water.

Glycerin does not dry out easily due to its physical properties. If the drying process is insufficient, glycerin will appear on the DTF transfer membrane after a while. And you look greasy.

What is the solution to the DTF transfer smudge problem?

When replacing DTF inks of other brands, the temperature and time of the drying process need to be adjusted significantly, because the glycerin content ratio of DTF ink manufacturers is different. the

Let's say you can't find the best temperature and time for your drying process. Don't worry, you need to send us your target fabric samples and photo design files. We will do a test for you and send you a guide video for your reference.

Of course, if you choose to use our DTF ink and DTF hot melt powder, this problem will not exist.

Does DTF printing require a lot of printer maintenance?

DTF printing still requires the same maintenance as DTG. Just not as often. DTG inks don't clog badly, and when they do, they're easier to clean. DTF white ink will still separate and needs to be shaken daily. The best way to maintain it is to print regularly. If you print every 2 days, all you need to do is shake the ink and run the automatic printhead cleaning before printing.

Can I print on DTF film with DTG ink?

No, DTF printing requires special DTF inks. Printing with DTG inks on DTF film causes the ink to flow and mix with white and CMYK.

Can I put DTF ink into my DTG printer?

Yes, you can print shirts on a DTG printer with DTF ink. It's not as good as professional DTG inks, but it works well. You will still need to pretreat your garments with your preferred pretreatment solution.

What kind of pretreatment do my fabrics need to do during DTF printing?

You do not need to pretreat your fabric. One of the many advantages of DTF printing is that garments do not require any pretreatment to accept transfer printing. This can simplify your operations and potentially reduce your costs. Overall, the DTF printing process is faster and requires less labor than DTG printing.
